December, 1972, Al Backscheider—a 62-year-old husband, father, and grandfather—was unexpectedly laid off after 32 years on the job. A month later, with only 12 cases of tape and a customer-first mindset, he founded BGR in the basement of his Cincinnati home.

His mission was clear: give manufacturers and wholesalers something they weren’t getting—a packaging partner who puts service and relationships first.

That spirit—Hard work, hustle, customer-first—became the DNA of BGR. From the start, Al worked to unpack hidden opportunities for customers, even before we had the words for it.

BGR Today

Celebrating over 50 years of service

Over the past 50 years, we’ve evolved from a small business into a trusted partner for operations, procurement, and supply chain leaders across the country. We're the largest family-operated distributor of industrial packaging supplies and equipment in Ohio and four surrounding states: Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, and Michigan.

Al’s sons, Dean and Allen, carried forward the same belief that started it all: customers don’t just need boxes and tape—they need results. They scaled BGR with purpose, investing in service, expertise, and long-term value for every customer.

From RFID to automation, pack design to cost-saving programs, we help companies take back control of their packaging and unpack opportunities hidden in plain sight.

Because at BGR, control isn’t promised—it’s measured, delivered, and backed by data and industry-leading guarantees.
